Independent artist

Independent - Not dependent on or affiliated with a larger or controlling entity: Not relying on others for support, care, or funds; self-supporting. Providing or being sufficient income to enable one to live without working:

The term "I'm an independent artist" has been abused by a lot of so-called indi-artist.
A real independent artist is, someone who presses their CD's and Vinyl, markets, promotes, distributes, and does their own collections.
If you record your music and then give it to a independent distributor to sell it for you, then you are dependent of that distributor.

The term started when artist like Show & AG pressed up "Soul Clap" and went around New York and sold the ep to stores and on the streets. That was a true independent artist. But for all the rest of you that depend on another staff to get your material into stores are not fully independent. Recognize what that staff has to go through for you and give them their credit do.
